We spoiling this?

Hey all, How spoiler-y do we want to get with this discussion? As we go through IJ, there are things that I would like to point out which will be important down the line. Are we comfortable with spoilers or should I be as vague as possible. Check out this editorial from S. Fish http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/what-do-spoilers-spoil/ MG

  1. As I always say, if a book's not worth reading once you know the ending then it's not worth reading.

Of course, I'm the jerk that tells all my students how EVERY book ends before they get started.

I don't have a problem with it--especially if all participants are going in with eyes wide open.

Similarly, though The Cantos can't really be "spoiled" it's worth pointing out that sections and allusions reference forward and backwards throughout the entire poem.

  2. I just bought Jest today and The Cantos is on its way. I'm excited! As for spoilers, I don't really mind. I always spoil stuff for myself anyway, be it a video game or a book.

  3. Im actually just finishing up IJ tonight, but im planning on rereading it along with the group, and I found a couple spoilers online while in the bulk of it, on accident. I actually found it positive, in regards to this novel, at least. There are so many apparently disjointed threads that little hints of confluence helped me get through some of the denser sections of the book. There are some real twists which better be left to suspence but the inter-character relations can be hard to keep track of, and much harder to predict.
